Moulding Culture (Matthew 5:13-16, Colossians 4:2-6)
Hayley Young, 4 November 2018
Part of the Missional Discipleship series, Sunday Morning service
Jesus calls us to be salt and light to the world around us, but how is this possible? Paul informs us that we are to first reach up to God and be devoted in prayer, out of our relationship with God we will be equipped and able to make a difference to the situations we find ourselves in during the week. With the empowerment of the Holy Spirit we are able to fulfil Jesus’ statement by moulding the cultures we live and work in to be centred on Jesus Christ.

Matthew 5:13–16 (Listen)
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Colossians 4:2–6 (Listen)
2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—4 that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.
5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
