Psalm 124 - Power is relative (Psalm 124:1-8)
Richard Youngman, 4 October 2015
Part of the Psalms of Ascent series, Sunday Evening service
Do we realise how big and how powerful our God is when we feel overwhelmed by what we come up against in our lives, no matter how terrible, or how daunting, or how challenging those circumstances may be? ?We worship an all-powerful God and an active, not passive, God! ?Do we remember how far God has already gone on our behalf and believe His willingness to act in our lives now? ?Do we recall that in praise to Him, rely on it in our daily lives and speak to it in proclamation to others of this faith we profess?

Psalm 124 (Listen)
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
124:1 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side—
let Israel now say—
2 if it had not been the LORD who was on our side
when people rose up against us,
3 then they would have swallowed us up alive,
when their anger was kindled against us;
4 then the flood would have swept us away,
the torrent would have gone over us;
5 then over us would have gone
the raging waters.
6 Blessed be the LORD,
who has not given us
as prey to their teeth!
7 We have escaped like a bird
from the snare of the fowlers;
the snare is broken,
and we have escaped!
8 Our help is in the name of the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.
