We enjoy welcoming families to HBC! We have a mixture of activities that children and families can join in with.
On Sunday mornings, JC Kids meet together in the hall. Creche and Sparklers meet together in the Creche room.

Our HBC mission statement is: ‘Leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ’
This is also key in our children’s ministry as we have the amazing privilege and opportunity to work with children. We would love to see every child have the chance to understand who Jesus is and have the opportunity to choose to love and follow him throughout their lives. We also recognise that’s important to have the ‘up’, ‘in’ and ‘out’ dimension to our ministry with children.
UP- MEET GOD – the call to build a relationship with God through Jesus, as we engage in prayer, bible study, worship and various other means of developing that relationship. This is the ‘upward’ dimension of our faith in Christ.
IN- MAKE FRIENDS – the call to build up each other as a group of people following Jesus together through service, pastoral care, training, encouraging and building a church community where all are included. This is the ‘inward’ dimension of our faith in Christ.
OUT- MAKE A DIFFERENCE – the call to make a difference in individual’s lives, our community and surrounding communities, our nation, and the world through the gospel at work. This is our ‘outward’ dimension of our faith in Christ. HBC provides groups and activities for children on Sundays and during the week with occasional special events.
Our Sunday groups cater for children of all ages from babies in crèche to children in Year 6, before moving up into our youth programme. HBC is committed to safeguarding our children.
We follow safer recruitment guidelines for all our volunteers which includes a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. All our volunteers have regular training and follow our HBC Safeguarding Policy. Our Safeguarding Policy Statement is here. If you would like to see the policy in full, please be in touch with the church office.
Sundays
Creche Newborn – 3 years old
We seek to provide a safe environment for new-born babies and toddlers up to three years old, enabling parents and carers the opportunity to go back into church to enjoy the service. The creche room is situated close to where the service is held enabling quick connection with parent/carer and child, if the need arises. Our creche is staffed by caring adults who enjoy providing a fun environment. Age appropriate toys, games, books and music are permanently in the room and are easily accessible to give a wide choice of activities. We enjoy building friendships with parents and carers of the babies and toddlers that we care for.
Sparklers Ages 3 years old – Reception
Sparklers is our Sunday morning group for children aged 3 to Reception. The children look forward to sharing their news and showing each other special toys and possessions. We enjoy listening to Bible stories, singing and making lots of noise with instruments. We also like doing cutting, sticking and colouring. Before mums, dads and carers come to collect their children, there is also time for playing using the toys that are permanently stored in our room for easy access!
JC Kids Year 1 – Year 6
JC
Kids is our Sunday morning group for children in School Years 1 to 6. We meet in the church hall which has lots of space to do all sorts of fun activities. When we first arrive, we have a catch up chat before moving into games, quizzes, stories and prayers. Our sessions vary from week to week and can include drama, singing, parachute games and crafts. We break up into various groups – sometimes we might be in mixed aged groups, sometimes boys and girls in groups separately or groups made up of similar ages. We love to learn about Jesus and the difference he can make in our lives. Whilst it can be quite fun and noisy in JC Kids sometimes, there’s also time for us to be quiet and think about how we can respond to Jesus and his love for us. We have been challenged to think about how we also ‘Meet God’, ‘Make Friends’ and ‘Make a Difference’ as JC Kids. We look to building our relationship with God through Jesus, we look to build our community in JC Kids as we care and pray for each other and we have been actively ‘Making a Difference’ in our community by giving to our local Foodbank. The older children in JC Kids enjoy special events that are arranged from time to time. We’ve been trampolining, enjoyed progressive suppers around Hertford and watched movies together.
Family Fun
Our family events are for families with primary aged children – older and younger siblings are welcome to join us too! Watch out for details about future events in HBC Connect!
