We were delighted to host Hollybush Primary School for their Christingle service today, during the last week of the term. It was lovely to have the whole school, staff, parents and friends participating in joyful singing and excellent reading. Fourteen children from across the school carefully paraded lit Christingles around the church in a celebration of light!
Andrew, our Pastor, explained the meaning of the Christingle, whilst sporting an orange jumper, a red sash, an orange self-knitted beany hat, and a flaming candle upon his head and 4 sticks with fruit…. not sure anyone has ever seen a Christingle quite like it, but it was very well received!
Christingle is a tradition from the Moravian Church which reminds us of the love of Christ (red ribbon) wrapped around the world (orange), with Jesus as the light of the world (candle). The fruits or sweets on four sticks represent the four seasons and the abundance of God’s provision for us.
